When my sister-in-law asked me if I'd take photos of her home birth, I wasn't sure what to expect. Of course I'm familiar with the process having done it myself three times. However, I have to say it's a completely different perspective going from participant to observer.
It was one of the most extraordinary things I've ever been part of. I couldn't have been more honoured to have been there for the birth of my nephew.
Reed was born early in the morning. As I drove over in the dark, the world was still sleeping, but all the lights were on in their house.
Mama did a fantastic job with the help of some great midwives and a very doting husband, my big bro.
One of the fantastic midwives from Generations Midwifery Care.
First moments seeing her son. Love that smile.
Daddy needed to get a good look too.
Must be quite the feeling seeing your daughter become a mother herself.
This is my brother holding his son for the very first time. Definitely a once in a lifetime moment. So glad I could capture it for him.
That's a little hand she'll be holding for a long time.
Getting all checked over. Who couldn't smile at that gorgeous little face?
Reed weighed in at 7lbs 2oz and was 18 inches long.
First diaper change is always the hardest. They'll be pros before they know it.
That's one proud daddy for sure.
It was a rough morning for this little guy.
My favourite photo of the entire day.
One of the benefits of having a baby at home is you have all the comforts. Not everyone understood what all the commotion was about though.
I think they are pretty happy with him. :)
Welcome to the world little man. You are loved indeed.
I took this shot on my way out. A home filled with new life and love.
