Tell Me a Story | January 2014 | Kingston & Brockville, Ontario Family Photographer

Friday, 31 January 2014

I am very excited to be part of a great group of photographers showcasing personal images of their everyday lives each month for the next year. The group is called 'Tell Me a Story' and all of the images are taken in the course of one day, giving a tiny glimpse into each of our lives.

However, I'm feeling a little foolish because I goofed up in the very first month. My grand plan was to take my images all on a weekend day. Due to our lovely winter weather (sense the heavy sarcasm) things are generally dark by the time I get home during the week.

The kink in my plan was I didn't look at a calendar and I ran out of weekends. I realized this week that the end of the month was coming before I expected. So, improvising on the fly, my first segment of 'Tell Me a Story' is going to be character-less. I spend a couple days of week working from so I see our house as it is when no one is around. The material aspects of our lives scattered everywhere. So I thought I'd use that to set the stage of the story of our next 12 months. After all, you can tell a lot about people by the way they keep their houses.

I promise next month I'll have images with people in them. ;)

This is my older daughter's room. She's learning to read and write in kindergarten. She loves to see how much taller she is getting on the marks on her door frame.

Both girls have a LOT of stuffies. Courtesy of all their loving relatives. My younger daughter is going through a Toopey and Binoo phase, hence the Patchy-Patchy.

Okay, so I wasn't completely alone at home this day. Sam, our Lab/Terrier mix was there too. You might recognize him in the artwork on the left.

We may have a lot of dolls around our place, but we've got our fair share of trucks and Hot Wheels (usually left right where you are trying to walk).

My girls and I are big fans of reading, you'll find big people and little people books scattered around the house.

On our downtime, some of us may be masked crusaders. Goodness knows I'm up often enough in the nighttime putting blankets back on, getting water and escorting people to the potty that I could probably attend to crime problems as well.

As messy as our house might get, at least I can say it's always tidier than this place. :)

One of the main reasons I got the idea to take photographs of the different parts of our house -- our bedroom where we cuddle up to watch TV, the rooms the girls slept in as babies, the height marks on the door frame -- is because this sign is on our front yard as of this month. This house has been good to us for the last eight years and I want these reminders when we move on. Our girls are little enough now that these images will be the only way they remember our first home.

  1. What a nice story - thank you for sharing. Moving away from what is familiar is hard, so it is great that you have taken so many photographs to remember what you had. I always talk about our old homes. I love your daughters bedroom - looks so girly. I hope your new home will create as many good memories.
